Within employee benefits expense there were £7.2 million (2018: £6.0 million) of restructuring costs, £6.6 million of costs associated with the equalisation of Guaranteed Minimum Pension (GMP) benefits (2018: nil) and £1.4 million (2018: nil) of costs incurred in relation to the group's response to the severe dry weather event experienced during the year.
The total expense included within employee benefits expense in respect of equity-settled share-based payments was £4.0 million (2018: £3.2 million). The company operates several share option schemes, details of which are given in the Directors' remuneration report. Further disclosures have not been included as they are considered immaterial to the assessment of the share-based payments charge.
